0

We are living in the modern fast pace world that probably causes us to have an unhealthy lifestyle. This could be because of the sedentary lifestyle such as eating fast food or junk food and being less active as most of the time ended up sitting in the office and not moving much. This has led health companies to make supplements to help people become healthier in a convenient way. Supplements such as vitamins or multivitamins in the form of chewable strawberry tablets has been around in the market for a long time. The question is, can you take Omega-3 with vitamin C?

The answer is: Yes, you can. Firstly, you may want to know a bit more about both of these nutrients before knowing why it is alright to take it together. Omega-3 is a fatty acid which can only be obtained from food such as fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and cod. There are few kinds of omega-3 but only 3 are well-known for its health benefits such as supporting bone and joints, improving cardiovascular system, improving asthma and supporting mental health. The 3 types of omega-3 are alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). DHA and EPA are similar to the fatty acids in the brain. This makes the Omega-3 in forms of DHA and EPA much more preferable to be obtained from the fatty fish as mentioned.

Meanwhile, vitamin C is also called ascorbic acid. This vitamin belongs to the water-soluble vitamins, which translates to the vitamin is easy to be eliminated by the body through the urine. This also means vitamin C is needed to take on a regular basis because the body is unable to store it. Vitamin C is high in food like oranges, lime, lemon, strawberries, kiwifruit, tomatoes and kale. Vitamin C has been proved to aid with the human health by helping to boost the body immune system, improve skin, slowing down ageing process that leads to neurodegenerative diseases such as cataract and Alzheimer’s disease, reducing risk for heart diseases and cancer, aid with those with anaemia and supporting healthy musculoskeletal system (body system involving muscle and bones).

Thus, what makes Omega-3 with vitamin C okay to be taken together? Generally, there is no evidence that shows any interactions between the two nutrients. This already shows that it is safe to take both together at the same time. Furthermore, there is research done to study if taking these two actually brings more benefits for humans. Studies have shown that by taking these Omega-3 and vitamin C can help to enhance the respiratory structure involved with asthma diseases. This means that an asthmatic person’s inflamed airway can be improved from making the asthma become worse. Other studies stated that both of the nutrients can help prevent cold and flu episodes. Another study shows that combining the two can greatly reduce fatigue.

It can be concluded that taking omega-3 and vitamin C simultaneously does not pose health risks and there are no interactions that can be found. Getting these nutrients from food should be done first before proceeding to taking it in forms of supplements because supplements should not be replacing food and it is meant to be a supportive agent to help cover what is lacking from the daily meal. It is important to take any supplements as instructed on the product’s label or as directed by healthcare professionals. If you have any medical conditions or taking medications for certain diseases, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare providers first before purchasing and consuming any health supplements. Any questions or enquiries should be addressed to respective healthcare providers and the supplements company. Know about our hajj vaccination package
